Texas Governor, Republican Rick Perry issued an executive order requiring girls entering the 6th grade to be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted virus that leads to cervical cancer. In addition he ordered that the state pay for the vaccine, which costs $360, for girls between the ages of 9 - 18 who cannot afford it. After that Medicaid must provide this vaccine to girls 19 - 21. There is so much wrong with this story, were do I start?
First, why is the government telling American Parents how to raise their kids? This is another case of the government telling you that you are to dumb to raise your kids. As a Conservative Christian Parent my kids will learn to wait till marriage (My son is 9 months, the talk can wait a little while). Yes, Heaven forbid my kids could rebel and make some mistakes, but if the government takes away all of the consequences of premarital sex, then how will they learn? God gave us consequences for a reason.
Second, why are taxes being used to pay for this? I thought the guy was a Republican? Do I sense a hint of Rhino in the guy? If you teach your kids that pre-marital sex is ok then it is your responsibility to pay for this vaccine yourself. I work hard to support my family and I don't want to see my money going to protect someone else’s kids form their mistakes.
Third, what is Gov. Rick Perry thinking? Maybe he is thinking about buying a new car? Merck, the only maker of this vaccine, donated $6,000 to Perry’s re-election campaign. How much more will he receive from Merck now that he has forced this upon the state? There is more, one of the three Merck lobbyists in Texas is Mike Toomey, Perry’s former chief of staff. Sometimes you have to help a friend who helped you.
In closing all I can say is I hope that the people of Texas can teach this guy who it really is that pays his salary!
